These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Curtis Web Services website and the web design and development services I provide. By engaging my services or using this site, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
1. Who I Am
Curtis Web Services is a sole-trader web development business operated by David Curtis, based in Kinghorn, Fife, Scotland. I provide web design, development, e-commerce, SEO, and ongoing support services to businesses across the UK.

2. Services
I provide bespoke web development services, which may include:
- Custom website design and development
- E-commerce store development
- Technical SEO and performance optimisation
- Ongoing maintenance and support
The exact scope of any project is set out in a written proposal or quote, which forms part of these Terms when agreed.
3. Quotes and Estimates
Any prices shown on this website (e.g. "from £350") are indicative starting points, not fixed prices. Every project is quoted individually.
Quotes are valid for 30 days from the date issued. If your requirements change significantly after a quote is agreed, I may need to revise the scope and price accordingly.
4. Payment Terms
- Deposit: A non-refundable deposit (typically 50%) is required before work begins
- Balance: The remaining balance is due on completion, before the site goes live
- Ongoing services: Maintenance and support are invoiced monthly in advance
- Payment methods: Bank transfer, direct debit, or cash in hand — as agreed before work begins
- Any bank details provided for direct debit setup are stored securely and used only for that purpose
Late payment may result in the suspension of ongoing work or services.
5. Project Timelines and Client Responsibilities
Project timelines are estimates and depend heavily on how quickly you provide feedback, content, and approvals.
To keep things moving, you agree to:
- Provide all necessary content (text, images, logos, product information) in a timely manner
- Respond to questions and feedback requests within a reasonable timeframe
- Have the authority to make decisions on behalf of your business
- Ensure any content you supply does not infringe on third-party rights
Delays caused by late content or feedback may extend the project timeline and, in extreme cases, may require rescheduling.
6. Revisions
Each project includes a reasonable number of revisions during the design and build phase, as agreed in the proposal. Further revisions beyond this may be charged at my standard hourly rate.
Revision requests should be consolidated — sending feedback in batches rather than piecemeal helps us both work efficiently.
7. Intellectual Property
Upon receipt of full and final payment:
- You own the finished website design, content, and any custom code I've written specifically for your project
- I retain the right to use general techniques, frameworks, and pre-existing code (e.g. Bootstrap, PHP libraries) across all my work
- I retain the right to display the finished work in my portfolio and on this website, unless you request otherwise in writing
Third-party components (e.g. Stripe integrations, hosted fonts) are governed by their own licence terms.
8. Hosting and Domains
Unless otherwise agreed, I do not provide hosting or domain registration as part of a project. I'm happy to advise and help set these up, but they remain your responsibility. Any third-party costs (hosting, domains, SSL certificates, premium plugins) are your responsibility.
9. Maintenance and Support
Ongoing maintenance and support is available as a monthly service. This covers:
- Security updates
- Regular backups
- Minor content updates on request
- Monitoring for issues
Maintenance does not include significant new features, redesigns, or content updates beyond what's agreed in the monthly scope. These can be quoted separately.
10. Cancellation and Refunds
- Before work begins: Deposits are non-refundable once work has commenced
- Mid-project cancellation: You'll be invoiced for work completed to date. Any deposit already paid is credited against this invoice
- After launch: Completed and launched projects are non-refundable
- Ongoing services: Can be cancelled with 30 days' notice
If you're unhappy with the work at any stage, please raise it with me directly — I'll always work to resolve issues fairly.
11. Limitation of Liability
I provide services with reasonable care and skill. However, I am not liable for:
- Loss of business, revenue, or profits arising from website downtime or issues
- Indirect or consequential losses
- Issues caused by third-party services (hosting providers, payment processors, etc.)
- Content you supply that infringes third-party rights
My total liability in connection with any project is limited to the amount you've paid for that project.
Nothing in these Terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer under UK law.
12. Confidentiality
Any business information you share with me during a project is treated as confidential and won't be shared with third parties without your permission.
13. Changes to These Terms
I may update these Terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last revised. Continuing to use my services after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Scotland. Any disputes will be handled by the Scottish courts.
